The Night Before Your NCLEX: Final Preparation Checklist

A complete checklist of what to do the night before and morning of your NCLEX-RN exam.

The Night Before

  • Lay out two forms of valid ID (signature + photo)
  • Print or save your ATT confirmation
  • Map your route to the testing center - plan to arrive 30 minutes early
  • Prepare a high-protein snack for breaks
  • Do a light review - focus on your weakest topics, not new material
  • Review our Lab Values and Medications cheat sheets one final time
  • Set two alarms
  • Get 7-8 hours of sleep

Morning Of

  • Eat a balanced breakfast (protein + complex carbs)
  • Dress in comfortable layers (testing centers can be cold)
  • Leave your phone in the car (not allowed in testing area)
  • Arrive 30 minutes early for check-in

During the Exam

  • Take your optional breaks - eat your snack, drink water, stretch
  • If anxious: 4-count breathing technique
  • One question at a time - you cannot go back
  • Don't try to guess if you're passing or failing based on question difficulty
